Layering

Two bottles. One scent nobody else is wearing.

Layering is not spraying two perfumes and hoping. A pair works when the two share enough underneath to blend into one scent, and differ enough on top to become something neither bottle is on its own. These ten were chosen that way.

How to wear a pair

  1. The slower scent goes on skin. Spray it first and give it a moment. It needs contact and time to anchor, and it is what is still there hours later.
  2. The brighter scent goes over. It is what people notice first, and as it fades it settles into the shared base rather than disappearing.
  3. Mind the count. Dense pairs need fewer sprays, bright ones need more. Each pair below says how many.

Get the order backwards and the bright one burns off while the heavy one takes over anyway. The order is the whole trick.

The ten pairs

Pair 01 · Moderate

Mojave Ghost + Météore

Mojave Ghost on skin · Météore over the top

Desert-dry wood under a cold citrus flare. Fresh on top, woody underneath, close to the skin all day.

How to wear: two sprays of Mojave Ghost, then one of Météore.

Pair 02 · Moderate

Amyris Femme + Afternoon Swim

Amyris Femme on skin · Afternoon Swim over the top

Orange over cream. Warm and bright at the same time, and it actually lasts.

How to wear: two sprays of Amyris Femme, then one of Afternoon Swim.

Pair 03 · Strong

Bloom + Afternoon Swim

Bloom on skin · Afternoon Swim over the top

A big white floral cut with sunlight. Lighter and far easier to wear than the floral on its own.

How to wear: two sprays of Bloom, then one of Afternoon Swim.

Pair 04 · Strong

Sauvage EDP + Uomo

Sauvage EDP on skin · Uomo over the top

The clean amber signature everyone knows, with a soft powdery lid on it. Recognisable, but not the same as everyone else's.

How to wear: two sprays of Sauvage EDP, then one of Uomo.

Pair 05 · Strong

Tilia + D. Homme Intense

Tilia on skin · D. Homme Intense over the top

Green linden light underneath powdered iris. Softer and more human than the iris on its own.

How to wear: two sprays of Tilia, then one of D. Homme Intense.

Pair 06 · Strong

The Scent Le Parfum + Uomo

The Scent Le Parfum on skin · Uomo over the top

Dessert warmth with a dry powdery finish, so it never actually reads as sweet.

How to wear: two sprays of The Scent Le Parfum, then one of Uomo.

Pair 07 · Strong

Gentlemen Only Absolute + Amyris Femme

Gentlemen Only Absolute on skin · Amyris Femme over the top

Dark spiced wood under a creamy veil. All of the richness, none of the scratch.

How to wear: two sprays of Gentlemen Only Absolute, then one of Amyris Femme.

Pair 08 · Intense

The Scent Le Parfum + Shanghai Lily

The Scent Le Parfum on skin · Shanghai Lily over the top

Cocoa warmth underneath spiced flowers and smoke. The most obviously luxurious pair of the ten.

How to wear: one spray of The Scent Le Parfum, then one of Shanghai Lily. It is a lot of perfume.

Pair 09 · Intense

Shanghai Lily + Gentlemen Only Absolute

Shanghai Lily on skin · Gentlemen Only Absolute over the top

A proper oriental. Spiced flowers with the floor dropped out from underneath them.

How to wear: one spray of Shanghai Lily, then one of Gentlemen Only Absolute. It is a lot of perfume.

Pair 10 · Intense

Black Afgano + Tilia

Black Afgano on skin · Tilia over the top

The heaviest fragrance we make, with a window opened above it.

How to wear: one spray of Black Afgano, then one of Tilia. It is a lot of perfume.

Why some scents fuse and others fight

Two things have to be true at once. The pair needs enough shared material in the base to hold together, or the two simply sit side by side and you smell both separately. And it needs enough difference higher up, or you have spent twice the money on something that smells like one of them.

Most combinations fail one of those tests. Every pair here was checked against both before it made the list, which is why there are ten and not fifty.

Every pair is two full bottles, in the size you choose. $90 for two 50ml or $138 for two 100ml. No miniatures, no decants. Each fragrance also stands on its own.
